The bikes were either unsecured or secured with thin chains and combination locks. This is a reminder to always lock your bicycle and utilize the tips below to reduce the likelihood of your bike being stolen.	Always lock your bicycles. Use a lock resistant to cutting, breaking or picking, for example a U Lock.	Avoid using locks with lightweight chains and/or thin cables as they are easy to cut.	Be sure to lock the frame of the bicycle to a stationary object, preferably a sanctioned bike rack.	Make sure both wheels are locked, either by removing one wheel and U Locking it with the other and the frame or by using a secondary lock on one of the wheels. You can also purchase devices that replace the cam and the lever on quick release wheels and seats with a keyed system or replace them with bolts.Public Safety also wants to remind you to register your bicycle for free through the National Bike Registry at the Public Safety Office located in Grace Watson Hall or any one of the four Residence Life Area Offices (EPB, NRH, KGH and Colony Manor). Since 1984, the National Bike Registry (NBR) has been helping identify and return stolen bikes to their rightful owners. When a bicycle is labeled and registered in the NBR database, it can be easily identified by all Police / Public Safety agencies and returned to its rightful owner. The NBR engineered tamper proof label serves as a deterrent to would be thieves and the bike will be registered for ten years. If you observe any suspicious activity, please report it immediately to the Public Safety Office:RIT Department of Public SafetyEmergency: 585-475-3333 (V/TTY)Non-Emergency: 585-475-2853 (V/TTY)Instant Message: ritpublicsafetyText Message: 585-205-8333For more information check out these websites:www.nationalbikeregistry.com http://finweb.rit.edu/publicsafety/http://www.kryptonitelock.com/Pages/HowToSecure.aspxhttp://www.masterlock.com/search/?q=Bike+Locks

Assault Reported Off Campus, Near RIT

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating a sexual assault of an RIT student.
