Biography:
Denis Charlesworth is associate counsel in the Office of Legal Affairs where his duties are focused on University compliance matters and he reports directly to the chief legal officer. Prior to his employment with RIT, Charlesworth worked as an assistant attorney general in the Rochester regional office of the New York State Attorney General. He was assigned to the public advocacy and consumer bureaus where he litigated consumer fraud cases and enforced business compliance with New York State statutes and regulations under the jurisdiction of the Office of Attorney General. Previous to his government experience, Charlesworth worked in private practice at the law firm of Ward Norris Heller & Reidy in Rochester, NY where he practiced in the area of commercial and civil defense litigation. Charlesworth has also previously worked in private practice at law firms in Baltimore, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. where he counseled clients on government contracting and regulatory compliance matters, among other issues.
Charlesworth received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University with majors in government and history. He then received his masters degree in international affairs from George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs and his law degree from George Washington University Law School.
