Re-Employment and Adjusted Length of Service

Scope

This policy applies to regular employees.

Policy Statement

When former university employees are rehired, previous service is credited as follows:

Adjustments to length of service are based on all creditable previous service and apply only when there has been a break in an employee's regular service at RIT. Previous service is any continuous employment at RIT as a regular employee for at least one year or complete duration of at least one academic year contract period. Temporary service does not qualify as regular service. Full credit is given for all previous service, with no adjustment made for percent of full-time worked.

Modifications to length of service are reflected in an employee's adjusted hire date. The adjusted hire date is used to determine benefits eligibility and any applicable waiting periods.
