Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986

Applies To: All Employees

Consistent with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, RIT must verify all new employees' true identities and eligibility to be legally employed in the United States. An I-9 form and copies of original documents must be finalized within 72 hours of an employee's start date and retained on file in the Human Resources Office. Failure to complete this information will result in a delay of pay.

Procedure

New faculty and staff, including adjuncts and temporary hires, should be sent to the Human Resources Office on their first day of employment with original documents necessary to complete the I-9 form.

New student employees should complete the I-9 form in the Student Employment Office. If a college/department prefers to administer compliance with the law itself, at least two employees in the college/department may be designated to act as RIT's representatives. The obligation for compliance will rest with the designee and alternate. Training is provided by the Human Resources Office.
