The university's position is to provide official verification of employment only.
Information regarding employees or former employees is released in the following ways:
Employment Inquiries
The Human Resources Office handles all verifications of employment, verbally or in writing. Wage verifications are handled by the Payroll Department.
Information the Human Resources Office will release verbally includes:
- Name of employee
- Employment classification (e.g., faculty, staff, temporary)
- Hire date
- Termination date (if applicable)
HR must have written approval from an employee or former employee on each and every occasion before information is released to a third party. Typically, third party requests include:
- Name of employee
- Hire date
- Termination date
- Rate of pay
- Position title and/or faculty rank
Release Required By Law
All subpoenas or any other legal process requesting employee information must be referred to the Director of Human Resources who consults with legal counsel, if appropriate. RIT has the duty to and will release information requested by government agencies having the authority to make such requests.
