Procedure

Should a situation arise which can be described as:

Public Safety should be contacted via the emergency phone number (5-3333, 5-6654 TTY ) or at one of the blue light courtesy phones; or red phones designated for emergency response. Provide the following information:

The dispatcher answering the call will advise the additional steps to be taken. As directed, individuals should remain in the area of the incident and await the arrival of Public Safety.

In the event medical care is required for non-life threatening situations, the following should occur if the situation is a work-related injury or a personal illness:

For work-related injuries medical care needs to be provided by RIT's Managed Care Organization (MCO). Medical care received outside this network is not covered by RIT's Workers' Compensation Program and will become the responsibility of the individual. To access medical care for work-related injuries through RIT's MCO, please contact either Strong Memorial Occupational and Environmental Medicine Program at 275-7795 or RIT's Case Manager at Blue Cross Blue Shield at 238-3600. An Employee Accident Report needs to be completed by the injured employee and their supervisor and forwarded to Human Resources.

For non-work-related personal illness, please follow the injured employee's health insurance coverage.

In case of fire, activate the nearest fire alarm box. Public Safety will automatically be notified. The building must be evacuated immediately.

To evacuate a building, use only emergency stair towers; elevators must not be used. Employees are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the exits. Disabled individuals who can't evacuate the building without assistance should proceed to the nearest stairwell and wait for assistance from Public Safety.
