Fall 2008 Parking Regulation Changes and Information
The Parking and Transportation Services office has been diligently implementing various strategic recommendations resulting from last years effort with the Comprehensive Parking and Transportation Strategy. If you did not have the opportunity to join in the various public meetings, please review the Strategy documents. Below are the resulting parking regulation changes, new programs and other information you will need for Fall 2008.
NEW – RIT Rideshare Program – The Parking and Transportation Services office has developed a quick carpooling platform for your use via myCourses called RIT RideShare. With gasoline prices still on the rise, more and more people are looking into alternative travel modes (bicycle, motorcycle, transit, and carpooling). NEW – RIT Bicycle Program – In cooperation with the RIT Cycling Club, additional bicycle amenities and bike routes will be available throughout campus. This is just an initial start to the first ever bicycle program at RIT. Future phases of the program are identified in more detail in the Comprehensive Parking and Transportation Strategy. A website for this program is under development and will be functional by September.
NEW – Enhanced Shuttle Services – major changes will be in effect this Summer and Fall!
- Barnes & Noble Grand Opening – The on campus shuttle will have a stop at the new bookstore starting on Monday, July 28, 2008. The new bus schedules will be posted shortly.
- Fall Transit Services – The number of buses providing service on campus will double this Fall! This will provide significantly improved headways with buses every 10 minutes during the day. In addition, transit services will stop at the Park Point residential areas and at Barnes & Noble. The Green Line and late evening shuttle routes are also being modified. The new Fall bus schedules will be posted shortly
Parking Regulation Changes
- NEW - Resident Student parking restrictions in academic lots will be in effect from 5am till 5pm
- NEW – Academic Lots include: D, E, F, G, H, J, M, L, R, S, T, U, and all reserved lots: Grace Watson Circle, Kate Gleason Circle, Sol Heuman Circle, CIMS West.
- NEW – Resident Students include anyone living in the following areas: Park Point, Colony Manor, Perkins Apartments, University Commons, Riverknoll and the Residence Halls.
Vehicle Registration opens on Thursday, August 21, 2008!
All vehicles on campus must be registered each year with the Parking Office. The on-line registration process is quick, easy and at your finger tips.
- Log into to myParking Account using your RIT computer account and password.
- Review address and vehicle information on your “myParking Account” for accuracy.
- Don't stand in line, go on-line!!! To save you time, your vehicle registration decal and permits will be mailed to you.
If you do not have an RIT computer account, go to download and print a vehicle registration application form. Please use this form only if you do not have an RIT computer account.
Reserved Permit sales open Thursday, August 21, 2008.
- Fall Quarter reserved permits are effective Monday, September 1, 2008.
- Reserved parking permits are available on a first-come, first-served basis. They may be purchased on-line when you register your vehicle.
- NEW - Only our commuter population (students and employees) is eligible to purchase Reserved Permits.
- NEW - Resident students living on campus in the Residence Halls, Perkins Green, Colony Manor, University Commons, Riverknoll and Park Point are ineligible for this program.
- Single lot reserved permits are available for lots: D, E, F, J, M, R, S, U, Grace Watson, NRH Circle, Sol Heuman Circle, and CIMS West.
- NEW - The SAU Lot will be temporarily closed due to construction.
- NEW - Multi-lot permits allow access to lots: J, F, E and M only! The Multi-lot permits are limited to the north campus lots only.
- Single-lot or Multi-lot permits may be purchased for one quarter, two quarters, three quarters or full year; limited quantities will be available.
- On-line payment options are: Visa, MasterCard, Payroll Deduction, Bill Student Financial Services account.
- Other payment options such as check, money order and cash are accepted at the Parking Office.
The Parking Office urges you to use our on-line services and your vehicle registration decal and Reserved permit will be mailed to you. Don't stand in line, go on-line! If you do not have an RIT computer account, fill out the form, mail it, fax it or take it to the Parking Office with your payment.
During the first month of Fall registration, the Parking office processes over 11,000 vehicle registrations and permits. When you register your vehicle(s) and purchase Reserved permits on-line, you do not have to come to the Parking Office to pick them up. To prevent long lines at our very small office, we urge you to use the on-line service.
