We’re Going Green!
Dining Services is working to make RIT a greener environment and the Ritz Sports Zone is now composting biodegradable products. Remember to recycle & compost when dining at the Ritz! We can compost our cold drink cups, parfait cups, coffee cups, all paper plates, hinged containers, salad containers, soup containers, French fry boats, take out containers, paper napkins, wooden stir sticks.
We are not able to compost our food scraps, glass bottles, plastic bottles, pepsi cups, cup lids or trash.
How to help:
- Scrape compostable dishware.
- Dispose of your biodegradable items in the green compost bin.
- Recycle aluminum cans, bottles, and paper in blue recycling bins.
- Use just one disposable cup for beverages rather than a new one each time.
- Reuse your own mug for a ten cent discount.
- Take only the number of napkins you’ll need for your meal.
Biodegradable Products
Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) - a new generation of biodegradable and compostable plastics produced by a resin derived from renewable resources such as corn. Once discarded these planet-friendly resins decompose back in to the carbon cycle; water, carbon dioxide, and organic material—keeping a balance in nature. RIT uses this for:
- Cold drink cups
- Parfait cups
- Hinged containers
- Salad containers
- ‘Healthy’ take out containers
Renewable Forest Fiber - paper products made from 100% renewable forest fiber source from forest lands certified under the Sustainable Forest Industry (SFI). These products are not produced using wood from old growth or endangered forests and are recyclable and compostable. RIT uses this for:
- Soup containers
- Coffee cups
Green Wave Product - made of natural fibers such as sugar cane, grass, and reed plasma, and is able to withstand hot and cold food temperatures. Products are biodegradable in water, soil, and compostable materials, therefore will reduce RIT’s environmental footprint. RIT uses this for:
- French fry boats
- Dessert plates
- Round and oval plates
- hot take out containers
