Safe Zone: Improving the Climate for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) Community Members
In a collaborative effort between the Division of Student Affairs, Human Resources and the Center for Professional Development, we are offering a three hour workshop to provide RIT faculty and staff with the information, skills, and resources to demonstrate their commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for GLBT community members.
Here's what you can expect:
- Definitions of terms commonly used when discussing GLBT issues
- Description of identity development models
- Definitions and examples of homophobia and heterosexism
- Discussion of what it means to be an ally, along with exercises to develop and practice skills
- Discussion of relevant RIT policies related to harassment and discrimination
- Discussion of campus and community resources for GLBT faculty, staff, and students
At the conclusion of the workshop, you'll be given the option of signing up for a "Safe Zone" sticker for your office to publicly display your participation in this workshop.
